A notable day for truth

December 10, 2007

On December 10, 1520, Martin Luther packed Pope Leo X off to Hell in no uncertain terms. Responding to a papal bull the Pope issued titled, “Exsurge Domine,” in which he demanded that Luther recant the “errors” stated in his 95 Theses, Luther reportedly retorted, “Because you have confounded the saints of God, today the Lord confounds you. Into the fire with you!”

My husband uncovered this excellent vignette, and plans to propose a Federal holiday. I wonder whether our government is ready to commemorate truth so radically.
