Your ESP will get you 11,294 miles

March 13, 2008

Your Economic Stimulus Payment check, your reward for filing a joint Federal Income Tax return for 2007, will enable you to stimulate the economy by buying about 11,294 miles worth of gas, based on a price of $3.40/gallon and your car getting 32 mpg. But you might have to drive around to find gas at that price, and you might have to spend a lot to get a car that will give you that mileage. If you filed a single taxpayer return, it’ll get you 5,647 miles, same caveats.

Or, your ESP will buy paint for your garage so your car will look nice in there when you run out of gas money.

And thank you for playing, Filing for Dollars!

Alan and I were discussing how to spend our ESP bucks. I said, “You need a new suit.” He said, “Thank you! And you need a new dress.” Then as we set about planning our shopping trip, it occurred to both of us that we would probably be stimulating the economy of Malaysia, China, or Bangladesh.

Ah, but think of what it would do for Boeing if you went to Malaysia to shop!
