Does acclamation vindicate seasons of bad manners?
How big a concession was Hillary Clinton’s motion for acclamation when she stood no chance of winning anyway? 1549 to 341 hardly made for teeth-clenching tension. But she went down in victory to chants of Hill-a-ry! Hill-a-ry! for doing what she said she was going to do.
Here are some Halloweenish possibilities for Hillary’s post-acclamation reclamation.
Scenario 1: Hillary Clinton will be 68 in 2016, Joseph Biden will be 73; Hillary is nominated and runs in a clear field.
Scenario 2: Hillary will be 64 in 2012, the Near-Presumptive Romney will be barely broken in.
Scenario 3: Hillary seizes the 2012 nomination from Obama, who becomes the third president in history to run for but not win his party’s nomination for a second term (Franklin Pierce and Millard Fillmore were the others).
Scenario 4: The acclamation thing catches on. There are no more elections.
