T-for-Tumble Town

January 18, 2009

A two-for-one coupon and a tour of recession-tinged downtown Tacoma double-headed our Saturday coffee experience. The big preguntas: are the things under construction going to be completed? Is the Golden Chopsticks, built 1891, going to be demolished, refurbished, or remain standing, a monument to urban decrepitude spanning two depressions?

I don’t know any of the answers. What caught my eye this time around were the condos under construction and the NOT HIRING sign within, the brick-box apartments that eschew any standard of design, and the facade of an old school building that now houses offices of Tacoma Radiological Associates.
